I had a wonderful day in New York City recently. It was my first time visiting since I started my blog, and thought I’d share my food themed agenda.
The first stop, lunch at Le Coucou in SoHo. In 2017, Le Coucou won the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. My husband and I had the pleasure of eating at Chef Daniel Rose’s restaurant, Spring, in Paris years ago, and were excited to start our day with this tough-to-get reservation.
The lunch is two courses. The entrees we tried were a Potato Veloute with crème fraiche and caviar and a Quennelle in a champagne beurre blanc (shown above). And for our main course, I tried the Duck a L’Orange (above) and my husband enjoyed the Bavette a la Bourguignonne. If you are a fan of French cuisine, the dishes do not disappoint! And the glass of Montrachet that we washed them down with was a lovely bonus!
After lunch, we had to walk off our meal, and worked our way north, up Broadway, stopping in stores such as Fish’s Eddy and Whisk. Fish’s Eddy is a fun New York original that carries, dishware, glassware, and a variety of kitchen novelties. Whisk is a slightly more traditional kitchen store, but sure fun to browse!
The amazing selection and freshness of the fish and meat counters are really impressive as well. I picked up some ridiculously beautiful U-10 Scallops (check out my next blog, Scallop with Quail Egg). I always pick up a few staples when I am there as well, including an aged balsamic vinegar.
It’s worth noting, that throughout the market are individual restaurants that specialize in the ingredients. In the center court, just outside the meats and cheeses, they have high-top tables where you can order a cheese and charcuterie plate to die for, along with a lovely glass of Italian wine.
They have a different restaurants showcasing their produce, fish, meat, pasta! So much to choose from, you can’t go wrong! If you are lucky enough to be able to drive to the city to check it out, don’t forget a cooler with some ice packs in your trunk to keep everything fresh on your ride home!
All in all our day trip to the city was a great success! I ate some delicious French cuisine, browsed some fun, unique stores, and purchased some amazingly fresh, delicious ingredients that will play a starring role in some of my upcoming blogs! I hope you will enjoy them!
